Motion Sickness, or naupathy, affects especially the children between two and twelve years, as well as women. Displacements in the car, coach or boat are most likely to make it emerge. In the plane, takeoff and descent before landing are the most difficult to support. It occurs at predisposed individuals, and generally on turbulent grounds, and the patients are hypersensitive with acute noises.
Motion Sickness results from the apparent contradiction of information received by the brain and emanating from the vision, the inner ear and the muscular receivers. It is a pathology of neurovegetative origin reflex caused by the movements of the vehicles. Those cause a stimulation of the bodies of balance. At particularly significant subjects, this stimulation becomes excessive at the time of accelerations, changes of direction or turns. This sickness results in a vagal syndrome , i.e. paleness, tiredness, feeling of coldness of the body, sweats, feelings of giddiness, nauseas, and even vomiting.
Some advice to prevent motion sickness:
- Choose the most judicious place. Occupy, direct your glance on the horizon or a motionless object in the distance. On the other hand, it is disadvised to read.
- Make sure that the air you breathe is sufficiently fresh. On an aircraft or a bus, activate the ventilation and direct it on your face.
- Do not smoke and do not sit in a smoking area.
- Nibble and drink water in sufficient quantities, but no alcohol. Do not leave an empty stomach nor have a heavy meal. During the voyage, eat a banana or an apple. It is better to nibble and regularly drink to offer a complete meal at the time of the trip.
