Star Anise- Badiane

The star anise, or Illicium verum, has been given this name due to its star shape and anise taste. It is a plant that originated in China, and thus it is also known as anise of China.

The Chinese have a vast knowledge of these dried stars (fruits of anise, from the magnolia family) and use them in traditional medicine in order to support digestion, prevent winter diseases, and for cooking. It is even one of the essential ingredients of the famous Peking duck!
