Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a rhizomatous perennial herb of the family Zingiberaceae from the south of Asia. Sometimes called turmeric, its name comes because of the Arabic word كركم, khourkoum. It is widely cultivated in India but also to a lesser degree, China, Taiwan, Japan, Burma, Indonesia and Africa.
Turmeric is used as traditional medicine for the treatment of skin diseases, especially in India and Mauritius in the treatment of scabies.
It is used for a very long time as an anti-inflammatory by the Indian Ayurvedic medicine.
Colon cancer is statistically less present in areas where it is regularly used. The active ingredient of turmeric, Curcumin is the subject of active research. It is an effective agent for chemoprevention of colorectal cancer in rodents.
Curcumin could also help stimulate immune system cells that eat brain proteins that mark Alzheimer's disease.
In his book, Anticancer, Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, mentioned turmeric greatly for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions.

Directions
